Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County wins three Best of Illinois History awards

QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County (HSQAC) recently was awarded Best of Illinois History awards from the Illinois State Historical Society for public programming, publication and non-book material (periodical and newsletter) categories.
The award-winning entries were:
- The Civil War Symposium (Public Programming/Educational Programming): The symposium is a two-day event co-sponsored by the Tri-States Civil War Round Table which features a variety of presentations by local and national historians who provide lectures, re-enactment of historical events and period music
- John Wood and His Adams County (Other Publications): “John Wood and His Adams County” is a book featuring selected articles pertaining to the Gov. John Wood era which have been published in the society’s “Once Upon a Time” column published weekly in The Quincy Herald-Whig.
- The Governor’s Post (Non-Book Materials): The Post is the organization’s quarterly magazine which includes pieces on the Historical Society’s programs and history-themed stories, as well as other information of interest to members and Adams County residents. This is the second year The Governor’s Post has received a Best of Illinois History award.
HSQAC will be recognized for its contributions to Illinois history on April 26 at the ISHS annual meeting and awards luncheon in Springfield.
