Hollister Whitney offering $1,500 scholarships for local vocational and technical students

QUINCY — Hollister-Whitney (HWI), a leading provider of elevator components and solutions, recently launched its annual scholarship program, offering two scholarships of $1,500 each to support local residents pursuing further education in vocational or technical fields.
The Hollister-Whitney Scholarship aims to empower students who demonstrate outstanding community service, educational merit and financial need. It is designed to assist people committed to advancing their technical skills and contributing to the workforce.
As Hollister-Whitney celebrates its 125th year in the community, general manager Ed Trone believes this is the moment to introduce the scholarships.
“This is an easy opportunity for HWI to give back to the community we have been a part of for more than 125 years,” Trone said in a press release.
HWI faces the day-to-day challenge of finding workers.
“Hiring has been tough overall in recent years, and finding candidates with strong technical and mechanical skills has been even more challenging,” Trone said. “Our business heavily requires employees with a technical background and aptitude. Scholarship guidelines are:
- Residency: Applicants must reside within a 50-mile radius of Quincy.
- Field of Study: The scholarship is intended for students pursuing vocational or technical training.
- Evaluation Criteria: Applicants will be assessed based on their community service, educational achievements and financial need.
- Application Review: Hollister Whitney’s scholarship committee will evaluate all applications and may request interviews with finalists.
- Award Details: The scholarship is for one year and must be used in the academic year immediately following the award. Recipients may reapply in subsequent years.
- Award Amount: Each scholarship is valued at $1,500.
- Application Deadline: All applications must be postmarked by March 3.
Applications and essays can be submitted via the link on Muddy River News. Alternatively, applications may be printed and submitted via email or mail. Completed applications, including essays, two letters of recommendation and high school or college transcripts, must be emailed to hr@hwec.com or postmarked by March 3 and sent to Hollister-Whitney, Attn: Scholarship Committee, No. 1 Hollister-Whitney Parkway, Quincy, Illinois 62305.
