Homeowner Assistance Fund application period ends Tuesday

QUINCY — The Illinois Emergency Homeowner Assistance Fund program will accept applications for assistance until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023.

ILHAF provides up to $60,000 in mortgage assistance to eligible homeowners which is paid directly to the servicer, taxing body or other approved entity.

Funds may be used for:

  • Delinquent mortgage payments
  • Mortgage reinstatement or other housing-related costs related to a period of forbearance necessitated by the pandemic
  • Delinquent property taxes
  • Delinquent homeowner’s insurance and/or flood insurance
  • Delinquent Homeowner/Condominium/Co-Op Association fees
  • Delinquent mobile home lot rent

The ILHAF is a federally funded program dedicated to assisting homeowners who are at risk of default, foreclosure or displacement as result of a financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 15,095 applications, totaling $269,772,056, have been approved in homeowner assistance.

Homeowners can find more information and apply online at illinoishousinghelp.org with an active email address.

If you need immediate assistance with housing expenses due to a pending foreclosure, or assistance completing an application, contact a legal aid organization or a HUD-approved housing counseling agency immediately.
