QUINCY — The Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy will recognize Memorial Day with a program beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, in a tent outside Markword Infirmary at 1707 N. 12th.

Jared Ogden, a U.S. Navy veteran, U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Navy Seal and the founder and CEO of Triumph Systems, Inc., will deliver the keynote address. The Back in the Saddle band will provide patriotic music. The program will conclude with a wreath laying honoring all deceased veterans and a rifle salute and taps by the American Legion Post 37 Honor Guard.

“The Memorial Day program tradition brings our community together on this important day to remember the military service and sacrifice of men and women in Quincy and across the nation,” Charles Newton, Veterans’ Home at Quincy administrator, said in a press release. “Sunset Cemetery, the final resting place for 8,000 veterans, is a reminder of those sacrifices. We will continue to honor them each day and during this special program.”

The home will host a family picnic for residents and their families after the program.
