JWCC students Crawford, Sunde selected for Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team

QUINCY — John Wood Community College students Clancy Crawford and Malina Sunde are among a group of 81 Illinois community college student leaders nominated to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team.

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for two-year colleges. The All-USA Academic Team program recognizes academic achievement and service to both college and community and is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa international Honor Society, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Crawford is a graduate of Hallsville (Mo.) High School. She is vice president of JWCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter and STEM Club. She will graduate in May with an associate of engineering science and an associate in science. She plans to transfer to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to double major in aerospace engineering and computer science with a minor in rocket propulsion. She received a $15,000 transfer scholarship and a $5,000 Women of Excellence Award from Embry-Riddle.

Sunde resides in Plainville and graduated from Payson Seymour High School. She is a member of JWCC’s Student Government Association and is president of JWCC’s Phi Theta Kappa and STEM Club. Sunde plans to transfer to Missouri University of Science and Technology to study civil engineering.

Crawford and Sunde were recently recognized at the annual Phi Theta Kappa Banquet honoring all the All-Illinois Academic Team in Springfield.
