QUINCY — Registration is underway for the second Karter K 5K Run/Walk. This event helps Blessing Health System maternity unit patients who experience stillbirth with their medical expenses.

The Karter K 5K will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, on the Bill Klingner Trail in Bob Mays Park on North 18th Street between Seminary Road and Koch’s Lane.

Registration deadline is Monday, Sept. 25 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Registrations will also be accepted after Sept. 25 and through the day of the race at Bob Mays Park. Medals will be awarded to the top runners in each age group.

Registration fee for the race is $40 and can be completed online at karterkfund.godaddysites.com. T-shirts are available for sale at the site for $20.

Karter’s family — his mother and father, Bridget and Levi Kennington, and his brother and sisters, Kalvin, Kennedy, and Kora — created the fund after Karter was stillborn on Aug. 16, 2021.

The Karter K Fund is managed by the Blessing Foundation. Since its inception a year ago, the fund has provided $1,700 in assistance to Blessing Health System maternity unit patients who have experienced stillbirth.
