Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympics Illinois set for Tuesday at St. Dominic School

QUINCY — Community members are invited to gather at either St. Dominic School or at Transitions for the third leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in West Central Illinois on Tuesday, June 17. Officers from the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police will carry the torch 1.5 miles.

The run will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic School, 4100 Columbus Road. The runners will head east on Columbus Road and turn south onto 48th Street. Special Olympics athletes will be waiting at Transitions, 631 N. 48th, where the run will end at approximately 11 a.m. The athletes will then join the torch runners for a lap around Transitions. The event will end with social time while enjoying a bite to eat at approximately 11:15 a.m.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run raises funds and raises awareness for the thousands of athletes who compete in Special Olympics.

This year’s Special Olympics Illinois are being held in Normal from June 20-22. The opening ceremony for the state Special Olympics is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Hancock Stadium in Bloomington-Normal. It will feature the parade of athletes, national anthem, athlete oath and lighting of the Flame of Hope.
