CARTHAGE, Ill. — Memorial Hospital recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month this May by embracing the theme “Turn Awareness into Action.” A mental health Lunch and Learn event, “What is the Most Important Thing You Can Do for Your Mental Health Today?”, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, in the Health and Wellness Conference Room at Memorial Hospital, 1454 N. County Road 2050 in Carthage.

“Mental health awareness is just the beginning,” Brock Stout, behavioral health coordinator, said in a press release. “Turning awareness into action means recognizing the signs of mental health challenges, supporting our neighbors and ensuring that people of all ages feel valued and connected. Together, we can build stronger, more supportive environments for everyone.”

Stout said mental health is a personal journey, but it’s also a movement. A person doesn’t need to be an expert to make a difference. Whether sharing resources, supporting a friend, advocating for better policies, or simply starting conversations, every action counts.

“There are small actions that everyone can do to support the mental health needs in our community. Sharing personal experiences can break down stigma and inspire others to seek help. Stories of resilience and recovery create a powerful ripple effect,” said Valerie Brown, program director of Evergreen Center.

Memorial Hospital’s healthcare professionals encourage the community to take action toward protecting mental health and well-being. People struggling or unsure where to start should connect with their healthcare provider.
