CARTHAGE, Ill. — Dr. Yoon Hang Kim, Memorial Hospital CEO Ada Bair and Ashlyn Housewright, executive director of community health and wellness, presented an initiative titled “A Rural Health Care Organization’s Journey to Food as Medicine” at the Integrative Medicine for Underserved conference in Austin, Texas.

The presentation highlighted Memorial Hospital’s commitment to innovative healthcare solutions and its dedication to serving underserved communities. Kim also was part of a pre-recorded session at the conference with colleague Kacey Quimby about “Creating Integrative Medicine Services at Memorial Hospital – a Rural Critical Access Hospital” at the conference.

The conference brought together healthcare professionals, experts, and advocates nationwide who are passionate about enhancing access to holistic healthcare for underserved populations. Memorial Hospital’s presentation showcased its program, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in overall wellness.

Kim, Bair and Housewright discussed various strategies and success stories that showcased the positive impact of incorporating food as medicine within their healthcare practices. Topics included an overview of Memorial Hospital’s food and nutrition services and the teaching kitchen in Memorial Hospital Health and Wellness Center and Memorial Institute of Health and Healing.

The pre-recorded presentation with Kim and Quimby discussed the background of a rural health clinic, clinical services including integrative oncology, integrative approach to pain, lifestyle medicine to reverse type II diabetes, and integrative and functional medicine consultations.
