Mendon Unit 4 school set for next stop on the Historic Schoolhouse Tour

ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. — As part of the ongoing Adams County Bicentennial celebrations, residents and visitors are invited to take part in the next installment of the Historic Schoolhouse Tour series, hosted by local historians Jane and Paul Moody. The upcoming tour for Mendon Unit #4 takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

This unique experience offers a rare glimpse into the one-room schoolhouses that once served as the educational backbone of rural Adams County. Attendees will travel by school bus, offering an authentic touch that enhances the nostalgic journey through Adams County’s educational past. The tour is free to attend, but reservations are required to receive detailed instructions and historical materials.

Remaining tour dates and locations are:

  • Quincy Parochial Schools: Saturday, Aug. 16, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Liberty Unit 2: Saturday, Aug. 30, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Camp Point Unit 3: Saturday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to noon
  • Quincy Public Schools: Saturday, Sept. 27, 1 to 5 p.m.
