MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The National Alliance on Mental Illness West Central Illinois (NAMI WCI) affiliate will hold its first Family Support Group Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the Brown County (Mount Sterling) Public Library.

The support group will be held on the third Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the library. The group is a free, confidential, peer-led support group for any adult over the age of 18 with a loved one or friend who has experienced, or is experiencing, a mental health condition. The group facilitators are Trenton Flowers and Katie Neeley.

“We’re so pleased to begin offering the Family Support Group next month for the residents of west-central Illinois. This is the first step in ensuring support and advocacy for those affected by mental illness,” Terry Jenkins, NAMI WCI Steering Committee chair, said in a press release. “By working together, our mission is to ensure better lives for those individuals who have a mental illness and eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health, support and treatment.”

Headquartered in Mount Sterling, NAMI West Central Illinois serves the mental health needs of the residents in Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, McDonough, Morgan, Pike, Schuyler and Scott counties.

NAMI West Central Illinois will soon begin offering the Recovery Support Group, intended for people who have experienced/are experiencing a mental health condition, Jenkins added.

NAMI Illinois and its affiliates throughout the state provide free mental health services, programs, training and resources to Illinois residents with mental health concerns. It also offers vital resources to families and friends.
