NAMI West Central Illinois open house set for June 27 in Mount Sterling
MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The newest National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)-Illinois affiliate, NAMI West Central Illinois (NAMI WCI), will have an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, at Hagel 1891.
NAMI WCI officially launched in March. Headquartered in Mount Sterling, NAMI West Central Illinois serves the mental health needs of the residents in Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, McDonough, Morgan, Pike, Schuyler and Scott counties.
“The staff, families, members and volunteers of NAMI West Central Illinois are here for you and your loved ones,” Terry Jenkins, NAMI WCI Steering Committee chair, said in a press release. “We offer support to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness. Working together, NAMI WCI will advocate for better lives for those individuals who have a mental illness, and to erase stigmas associated with mental health, support and treatment.”
The June 27 event will feature networking opportunities, followed by brief presentations by keynote speakers Theresa Oakley, NAMI WCI Steering Committee member and liaison, and Trenton Flowers, NAMI WCI family support group facilitator. Light refreshments will be served. A volunteer sign-up will also be available for those interested in being a part of NAMI West Central Illinois.
A program director will be hired shortly. The affiliate now offers NAMI’s family support group and connection recovery support group. The groups are free, confidential, peer-led support groups for any adult over the age of 18. The family support group is for people with a loved one who has experienced/are experiencing a mental health condition. The recovery support group is intended for people who have experienced/are experiencing a mental health condition.
NAMI Illinois and its affiliates throughout the state provide free mental health services, programs, training and resources to Illinois residents who have mental health concerns, as well as offer vital resources to families and friends.
For those unable to attend the open house, but would like to volunteer and/or learn more about the services and resources that will be offered, email NAMI_WCI@namillinois.org. Visit namiwcil.org for more information.
