PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Registrations are now being accepted for a no-cost community cholesterol and wellness screening offered by Blessing Health System from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, at the Pike County Senior Center, 220 West Adams.

Register online at events.blessinghealth.org or call 217-277-5000.

This screening will include a no-cost cholesterol screening, blood pressure reading and body composition screening. People with an elevated fasting glucose or known history of diabetes or pre-diabetes will be eligible to receive an A1C screening.

Cholesterol screening requires a 12-hour fast for all participants and measures cholesterol, HDL, LDL triglycerides and glucose levels. Those taking the cholesterol screening should drink plenty of water and take any medications.

The American Heart Association recommends that people 20 years of age or older have their cholesterol checked every five years. People with known risk need more frequent monitoring.
