Former Meredosia Police Chief arrested following stabbing
PITTSFIELD, ILL. — A former Meredosia police chief faces charges following a weekend stabbing incident.
Curtis W. Williams, 51, of Chambersburg, is in the Pike County Jail after he was arrested Saturday night. Pittsfield Police report there was a disturbance in the 100 block of West Adams where Williams allegedly stabbed a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the neck with a knife.
The injured man was airlifted to Springfield’s St. John’s Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
Williams was arrested near the scene and faces charges of aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the incident. He is being held in the Pike County Jail on $250,000 bond and will be in Pike County Circuit Court Tuesday.
Williams resigned as police chief in Meredosia in 2018 following a domestic disturbance involving a woman and a gun. He pled guilty to charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault, was sentenced sentenced to 30 days in jail and to two years of probation and ordered to serve 30 days in jail with substance abuse evaluation and domestic violence counseling.
Assisting in the investigation were the Illinois State Police crime scene investigators and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and police report other charges could be filed.
