QPD to undergo Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation on-site assessment Sunday, Monday

Quincy Police Department

QUINCY — The Quincy Police Department has announced details of the upcoming Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation (ILEAP) on-site assessment to determine the Quincy Police Department’s eligibility for Tier Two Accreditation.

The Tier Two program is ILEAP’s most rigorous assessment, comprised of 179 professional standards that are reflected in the police department’s operating policies and practices in the areas of administration, operation, personnel and training.

The on-site assessment is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, Feb. 2-3. During this time, department inspections and audits will be conducted by an assessor. Before the on-site assessment, the department’s written policies will receive a comprehensive review, including an analysis of documents provided as proof that the prescribed standards are being met.

Chief Adam Yates and the accreditation team invite the public to voice their opinions, experiences and other information. The assessment team wants to hear from members of the public regarding their experiences with the Quincy Police Department and whether the citizens feel the police department should be accredited.

From noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, members of the public may call 217-228-4470 and select option 5 to speak with a representative from ILEAP. Telephone comments will be limited to five minutes. Feedback must address the department’s ability to meet the ILEAP standards. Callers should feel confident that opinions and issues will be heard by the on-site team and forwarded to the chief.

Once the on-site visit is completed, the assessment team confers, develops an on-site report and meets at the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association’s ILEAP council meeting to discuss its findings. The council votes to determine if the Quincy Police Department has met the professional standards that form the esteemed title of accreditation.
