QUINCY — The Quincy Public Schools Foundation recently approved 12 grant applications, totaling $62,376 in awards, for the spring grant cycle.

That figure is in addition to the $58,411.39 in guaranteed grant funding that was released from the foundation’s endowment for spending in the 2024-25 school year and the $89,219 in grant funding awarded for the fall semester. The funds for this grant cycle will be made available after Jan. 1 and will be for use in the spring semester.

“We are happy to have provided this funding to the schools and student groups,” Heidi Lanier, executive director, said in a press release. “Making a positive and lasting impact on the student experience is a primary goal of the QPS Foundation.”

Several grants were awarded in support of athletics, including grants for soccer, baseball, girls basketball and the trap team. A large grant was also awarded to Quincy High School sciences, providing lab resources and kits for biology, microbiology and science research. Physical education grants were awarded to Iles Elementary and The Academy.

“The funding we provide really depends on the grant applications we receive,” Lanier said. “We work very closely with QPS District administration to make sure that the projects we are funding wouldn’t have funding from other sources while aligning with the direction the district is moving.”

Any QPS employee is eligible to apply for grant funding, once a project is approved by the building supervisor or principal.

Grants funded this grant cycle by the foundation were:

  • New soccer goals for the QPS soccer program
  • Pitching machine and field screens for QHS baseball
  • New Quiz Bowl equipment for Quincy Junior High School
  • IMSE Orton-Gillingham Fidelity Course Training for three schools
  • Pre-Game warm-ups and balls for QHS girls basketball
  • Reusable book pouches for first graders at Iles Elementary School
  • Krazy Town Trampoline Park field trip for self-contained students at the Early Childhood and Family Center
  • Biotechnology classroom set and resources for AP Biology, Microbiology and Science Research 1, 2, 3 and 4 at Quincy High School
  • Fishing resources for physical education classes at Iles Elementary
  • New outdoor benches and picnic tables for Quincy Junior High School
  • Trap Team general funding for QJHS & QHS
  • Physical education grant for The Academy to integrate Verti-Go curriculum and visits

The QPS Foundation matched five applications with existing funding in the QPS District. The combination of foundation and district-funded grants resulted in more than 50 percent of the applications being funded.

The application period for 2025 fall grants will open in January.  To apply, visit qpsfoundation.org.
