Quincy Museum launches search for executive director

QUINCY — The Quincy Museum is seeking a qualified and visionary person to fill the position of executive director.

Barbara Fletcher, 63, director of the museum since June 2004, told the museum’s board on Dec. 3 of her intentions to retire. Fletcher said she will stay as director until her replacement is found, and she’ll also stay as long as necessary for her replacement to learn the ropes.

The Quincy Museum, with its collection of historical artifacts and commitment to community education, has played a role in promoting the understanding and appreciation of local history.

Key responsibilities of the executive director will include:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a forward-thinking vision for the museum, aligning with its mission and values.
• Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with the local community, schools, and organizations to enhance the museum’s role as an educational and cultural hub.
• Fundraising and Development: Lead efforts to secure financial support through grant writing, donor cultivation and fundraising events to ensure the sustainability and growth of the museum.
• Collections Management: Oversee the curation, preservation, and exhibition of the museum’s diverse collection of historical artifacts.
• Team Management: Provide effective leadership and mentorship to museum staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a background in administration, a track record of fundraising and community engagement and a passion for preserving and promoting local history.
