QUINCY — The Quincy Salvation Army invites the community to show their school spirit during the Captain Kettle Mascot Challenge.

Quincy High School’s Blue Devil, Quincy Notre Dame’s Raider, John Wood Community College’s Woody the Trailblazer, Liberty High School’s Eagle and Quincy University’s Victor E. Hawk will compete to claim the Captain Kettle Mascot Challenge trophy.

The inaugural Mascot Challenge was held in 2019, with Quincy High School’s Blue Devil winning the competition.

All mascots will ring bells for The Salvation Army for a two-hour period at HyVee on Broadway or Niemanns on 24th Street. A digital donation option will be available from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1 for those who can’t stop by the kettle when their mascot is ringing.

The mascot schedule is as follows:

  • Quincy High School Blue Devil – Monday, Nov. 27, from 4-6 p.m. at HyVee Broadway
  • Quincy Notre Dame Raider- Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 4-6 p.m. at HyVee Broadway
  • Liberty High School Eagle – Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 5-7 p.m. at HyVee Broadway
  • John Wood Community College Woody the Trailblazer- Thursday, Nov. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at HyVee on Broadway
  • Quincy University Victor E. Hawk- Thursday, Nov. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at Niemanns on 24th Street

In a press release, Mascot Challenge coordinator Jeremy Koren said, “This is a great opportunity for the community to support their favorite team and help The Salvation Army meet its Christmas goal. We look forward to seeing our community rally behind their favorite team while supporting a great cause.”

The winner of the competition will be announced the week of December 4.
