QUINCY — Blessing Health will be the site of a no-cost men’s health screening from 7 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Blessing Hospital.

Thirty appointments will be available. Registration is required by going to events.blessinghealth.org and searching Men’s Health Screening – June 13, 2024, or by calling 217-277-5000.

The screening will include a prostate specific antigen (PSA) lab test that screens for prostate cancer, a digital rectal prostate exam conducted by a doctor, a cholesterol and a blood pressure screening and a hemoglobin A1C blood sugar level screening for those who qualify. The A1C screening will be reserved for those who have an elevated fasting glucose level on their cholesterol screening or have a known history of diabetes or pre-diabetes. Fasting is required for the cholesterol screening.

“National statistics tell us that more than half of all men say they do not get regular health screenings,” Dr. Robert Johnson, board certified radiation oncologist and medical director of the Blessing Cancer Center, said in a press release. “Today many diseases – prostate cancer, heart disease and diabetes in particular – can be successfully treated or managed with early detection. But a man must be motivated to take this important step. I am asking men in our area to consider registering for this screening – if not for themselves – for the people in their lives who count on them every day.”

The Blessing Health no-cost men’s health screening will take place in the Complimentary Services Room on the lower level of the Blessing Cancer Center.  Men with appointments may park in the Moorman Pavilion parking lot at 11th and Oak and use the north entrance to the hospital.
