QUINCY — The Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York, is hosting a scam prevention workshop and its annual job fair this month. Both events are free for community members of all ages to attend.

The “Stop the Scam” workshop will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, and will educate consumers on how to protect themselves from various forms of fraud.

According to the most recent Scam Tracker Report from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), investment/cryptocurrency and romance/friendship scams were among the riskiest scam types for adults over the age of 55. People over 65 reported the highest average monetary loss from scams ($160), which they “were more likely to report paying via prepaid gift cards and checks.”

The workshop will feature speakers from BBB, the Quincy Police Department and the Senior Medicare Patrol Program.

The center’s annual job fair will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on June 20 and will feature employment opportunities for experienced workers over 50 and people with disabilities, though all job seekers are welcome to attend. There will also be opportunities for veterans, who get preferred entry into the fair from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Thirteen area employers are signed up to participate. Additional employers interested in participating can contact Mary Crawford at (217) 592-3616 or marycrawford@wcian.org.
