St. Peter School celebrates third anniversary of STEM lab with Extreme Science assembly

QUINCY — St. Peter School’s Wilhelm Johnson Scholz STEM Lab held a special Extreme Science assembly, as seen on “America’s Got Talent,” on Friday, May 9, to mark the third anniversary and fourth year of STEM at the school. The assembly was in the St. Peter School gym, 2500 Maine.
This year’s assembly was dedicated to honoring Alfred Pogge and Richard (Riff) Scholz, two influential supporters whose contributions were pivotal in the creation and ongoing success of the STEM Lab. Both men died earlier this year.
Pogge was a longtime professor at Quincy University, where he taught a variety of science courses and conducted important environmental research. As a captain on the QC Researcher, Pogge led efforts to study Quincy Bay’s environmental conditions, providing data that contributed to the Quincy Bay Area Restoration Project.
Scholz earned his law degree from Loyola University and had a distinguished career in criminal defense, including serving on the Missouri Public Defenders Office’s Homicide Litigation Task Force. Returning to Quincy in the 1990s, he dedicated his life to public service, founding Scholz Law Office with Lisa Oakley.
