Thanksgiving eve worship gathering planned at Nauvoo Theatre
NAUVOO, Ill. — A Thanksgiving Eve “Post Derecho” Oasis worship event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the historic Nauvoo Theatre on Mullholland Street in downtown Nauvoo.
In a press release, Gayle Pope, a retired professor from rural Hancock County and one of the planners, said, “It will be a time to reflect on a summer of disaster and recovery; turn to God who lifts us up and give us hope, and give God our thanks and praise.”
The event will include a presentation of scenes of damage from the June 29 derecho; scripture and a message by Mark Pettit of rural Burnside, prayer, and songs of hope, thanksgiving and praise. Music will be provided by “Living Water,” a local worship band led by Michael Haas of rural Hamilton along with Kris Knoke of Nauvoo and Amanda Greenhalge of Dallas City.
Attendees are invited to bring a small item taken from the rubble of destroyed and damaged buildings to place in a receptacle as a sign of letting go and offering their experiences to God.
Oasis is sponsored by Golden’s Point Church in rural Hamilton. For information, contact Michael Haas at 309-221-1401 or Pope at 217-357-1280.
