MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The Rink @ Uptown Mount Sterling is returning for its second season at 109 W. North, offering an ice-skating experience complete with cozy fire pits, food vendors and games. Presented by Action Brown County (ABC) through generous private donations and sponsorships, The Rink offers a 3,600-square-foot outdoor ice rink—15 feet wider than last year—rented from Industrial Frigo Ice USA.

ABC’s executive director, Alex Geisler, said in a press release, “There’s nothing like this in the area. Last year, we welcomed over 5,000 skaters during our inaugural season, and we’re looking forward to growing that number this year. Our goal is to make Brown County a Christmas destination where families and friends can create lasting holiday memories. We hope The Rink becomes a beloved part of their annual Christmas traditions.”

Thanks to the rink’s state-of-the-art chiller system, as long as the outdoor temperature stays at or below 65°F, The Rink will remain operational. Guests will enter through the American Legion Hall, which will house admissions, skate rentals, merchandise and photo opportunities.

Tickets can be bought at the door with cash or credit card or pre-purchased online at actionbrowncounty.org/the-rink. An adult day pass is $10, and a child (12 and under) day pass is $5. Skate rentals are included with general admission, though personal skates are welcome (a day pass is still required). Only those skating need to pay for entry. Spectators can enjoy the atmosphere for free. Skate assists will be available for children. Passes are good for the entire day, allowing visitors to enjoy skating, take a break to explore local shops and restaurants and return to The Rink.

“We hope people will take advantage of our fantastic local shops and restaurants and maybe get some holiday shopping done after their skating adventure,” Geisler said. “The Rink was created as both an economic driver and a tourist attraction for Brown County.”

The hours of operation from Nov. 29 through Jan. 12 are:

  • Thursday: 3 to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 3 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1 to 6 p.m.

Private rentals for holiday parties, birthdays and family reunions are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
