ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. — In a nod to Adams County’s agricultural roots, volunteers will gather at the Adams County Fairgrounds, to help “raise” the Heritage Farms Pavilion, a new permanent landmark honoring the county’s farming legacy.

The effort began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, as community volunteers joined Maas Construction to erect the pavilion. They were joined by volunteers from the Adams County Fair Association, Ursa Farmers Co-op, Adams County Farm Bureau and local farmers. A special recognition ceremony for Legacy Sponsors and volunteer workers was held at 11 a.m. followed by a lunch served by the Adams County Farm Bureau at noon.

“This effort will honor the long-standing tradition of barn raising in Adams County,” said Bicentennial commissioner Mark Peter in a press release. “Through the 18th and early 19th century, farm neighbors banded together to accomplish the difficult task of building a barn in a single day. Our goal will be to finish this project in that same spirit.”
