Bluff City Theater to present “The Last Five Years” on seven dates in July beginning July 10

Bluff City Theater

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Last Five Years, a stage musical written and composed by Jason Robert Brown and directed by Clark A. Cruikshank, will be presented at Bluff City Theater at 7:30 p.m. July 10-12 and again July 17-19. A 2 p.m. show will be offered on July 13.

Before it became a feature film starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, The Last Five Years began as a stirring stage musical that was hailed as one of the 10 best shows of 2001 by Time magazine. Told through inventive and heartrending songs, The Last Five Years is a two-person show that navigates the ins and outs — and beginning and ending — of a marriage.

Written by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade), this Drama Desk Award winner is the story of a couple’s five-year relationship, from the thrilling pangs of new love to their final separation. There is, however, a twist: the husband retells the relationship from beginning to end, while the wife relates their story in reverse. The two characters’ emotional timelines converge only once — at their wedding in the middle of the show.

This show is recommended for audiences age 13 or older. The running time is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

The cast includes Camden Scifres and Jamie Wellerstein and Eileen Engel as Catherine Hiatt. Music will be under the direction of Randon Lane, Tim Callahan will handle set design and costume design by Eileen Engel. Jayme Brown will serve as artistic director.
