Board of directors seat with Tek Forward to be given to Quincy University graduating senior

TEK Forward 2

PALMYRA, Mo. — Tek Forward, a local non-profit focused on accessible technical education, recently announced that a seat on the board of directors will be given to a Quincy University undergraduate student upon graduation. The term of the seat is for one year starting on July 1.

“We believe in helping graduating students as much as we can. In this job market, any experience we can offer them benefits them,” Luis Barnes, executive director at Tek Forward, said in a press release. “We look forward to working with these young men and women. They will offer a perspective unique to their generation, something we want to hear and understand as the world changes.”

Father John Doctor, OFM, vice president for mission and ministry at Quincy University, has been a steady presence at Quincy University for the last 15 years. The seat has been named after him.

“The creation of this chair signifies our calling to serve and not to be served, to give of ourselves for the good of others and the common good,” Doctor said.

“Naming the seat after Father John was an easy decision. Father John has been a great influence on me and a great mentor to many,” said Barnes, a Quincy University alum who also serves as president of the Quincy University National Alumni Board.

Graduated students will have to apply and be approved by Tek Forward’s board of directors.

Tek Forward’s main purpose is to teach free entry-level software development courses, work with small town businesses in helping understand how technology could benefit them, and build community connections by introducing technical skills to technical needs.
