HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Bookies Book Club recently donated more than $600, collected from its members toward the Hannibal Free Public Library’s Raise the Roof Campaign.

In a press release, Bookies member Priscilla Long said, “The Bookies group challenges all other book clubs in Hannibal to support this cause.”

Library director Caitlin Greathouse said, “Without the generosity of community members, keeping a roof on the 122-year-old building is going to be very difficult. This project was budgeted and fingers were crossed that everything would work out. Then the prices started increasing. A received bid came in much higher than anticipated, and it went even higher when the second round of bids were received. It became clear that something else needed to happen, and Hannibal Free Public Library reached out to the support of the community to raise the necessary funds.”

Greathouse is sending information about the project to anyone willing to listen. She is willing to speak to any book groups, service organizations, businesses or individuals.

“Getting the correct information to the community about the project is what is going to allow this campaign to be a success,” she said.
