HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Parks and Recreation, Hannibal Street Department and Parents as Teachers will sponsor The Big Dirt Dig from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Street Department maintenance facility, 701 Warren Barrett Drive.

The Big Dirt Dig gives children a chance to enjoy an immersive, hands-on play experience that excites both their senses and imagination.

The city of Hannibal will provide huge piles of sand and dirt for youngsters to play in and have several maintenance trucks on display. Children are encouraged to bring shovels, buckets, trucks and digging toys.

In a press release, Whitney Holliday, director of Hannibal Parents as Teachers, said, “Some of the best learning comes through play. I’m sure each child will have a sensory-rich experience developing motor and problem-solving skills with each scoop of sand or dirt.”
