Fifth Street Baptist Church to be site Sunday for reenactment of Mark Twain speech ‘The Gospel of Good Cheer’

HANNIBAL, Mo. — On June 2, 1902, at the invitation of Rev. Dr. Gill, Mark Twain gave a sermon entitled “The Gospel of Good Cheer” at Fifth Street Baptist Church.

Fifth Street Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church will present a reenactment of this speech on Sunday, Oct, 27.

The two congregations routinely host community events and worship together on fifth Sundays. This upcoming event, beginning at 4 p.m., will feature a variety of games and activities for all ages. At 4:30 p.m. a free chili supper will be served, and the presentation of “The Gospel of Good Cheer” by Mark Twain impersonator Richard Garey will begin at 6 p.m.

All events will be held at Fifth Street Baptist Church located at 111 N. Fifth. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
