Hannibal fire at Grace St. home a total loss

Hannibal Fire Department

HANNIBAL, Mo. – At approximately 10:00 a.m., the Hannibal Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1623 Grace Street. All three stations responded with eight personnel and four administrators.

While enroute to the scene, HFD was updated by 911 that this was an unoccupied, vacant house, with no utilities. Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully engulfed house with heavy flames and smoke visible from all sides. Command initiated a call in of off-duty firefighters to respond to the scene.

Given the intensity of the fire and number of firefighters on scene, crews began a defensive attack, focusing on containing the blaze and protecting nearby structures from the spreading flames. Fire crews worked to prevent the fire from extending to neighboring homes and properties, ensuring the safety of both residents and emergency responders. The fire was eventually brought under control after about an hour and no injuries were reported.

The Hannibal Street Department was called in to use a backhoe and remove debris from the house to finish extinguishment.

Investigators from the Hannibal Fire Department and the Missouri Division of Fire Safety conducted an investigation and the fire is being listed as undetermined, due to heavy fire damage.

The Hannibal Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Ambulance District, Hannibal Street Department, Hannibal Board of Public Works, and Missouri Division of Fire Safety.
