Hannibal Regional, multiple community partners launch Community Health Needs Assessment

Health needs assessment

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Regional, in collaboration with the United Way of the Mark Twain Area, the health departments from Marion, Lewis, Monroe, Ralls and Shelby counties and the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council, recently launched the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).

The purpose of the CHNA and subsequent Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is to identify and address the most pressing health concerns of the region.

In a press release, Wendy Harrington, vice president for Development at Hannibal Regional, said, “The CHNA is an essential process for ensuring the health and well-being of our communities. By bringing together our local health departments, the United Way and economic development leaders, we can better understand our residents’ challenges and create impactful strategies to improve their quality of life.”

The CHNA is completed every three years as part of Hannibal Regional Hospital’s nonprofit status. It is a process that leverages public input through surveys and stakeholder interviews, allowing the community to play an active role in shaping health priorities. Key findings from the 2022 CHNA highlighted concerns such as mental health, workforce availability and access to care, all of which will guide the 2025 assessment.

Maggie Strong of Strong Consulting, a Quincy, Ill., firm specializing in community development and strategic planning, has been engaged to lead the CHNA process and facilitate the creation of the CHIP. The firm combines data-driven analysis with expert facilitation to ensure all voices are heard and plans are widely supported.

The public is invited to participate in a survey to share their perspectives on the region’s health needs by going to the Community Health Needs Assessment Survey on Hannibal Regional’s website. People interested in providing detailed feedback can participate in stakeholder interviews by contacting Strong at me@maggiestrong.com.
