Hannibal’s Fink wins ‘A’ flight at Ice Bowl disc golf tournament

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Ice Bowl disc golf tournament held Jan. 27 featured more mud than ice. Disc golfers from around the area participated in the 18th annual Ice Bowl at the Don Crane Disc Golf Course in Huckleberry Park.

The event was sponsored by the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department and Excitement Disc Golf. Financial support was provided by the Quincy Disc Golf Club.

The Ice Bowl featured three flights. Winners in each flight were:

A Flight

• First: Brad Fink of Hannibal
• Second: Rodney Schild of Quincy, Ill., Shawn Geralds of Hannibal, Seth Terwelp of Quincy
• Third: Calvin Cookson of Quincy

B Flight

• First: Gary Polkinghorne of O’Fallon
• Second: Virgina Polkinghorne of O’Fallon
• Third: CJ Krigbaum of Quincy

C Flight

• First: Shane Powell of Hannibal
• Second: Debbie Polkinghorne of O’Fallon
• Third: Tim Milligan of Montrose, Iowa

John Shaw of Excitement Disc Golf was the tournament’s director. He said in a press release, “Disc golfers tend to really step up when they’re doing something for a good cause and that’s kind of what this is all about. It’s to help people. This one is for the Buddy Pack which I think is great. It gives kids what they need.”

“It’s a great tournament because it’s the simple fact we’re giving back to the community, and the energy here is great,” said Brad Fink of Hannibal, who won his flight and earned the lowest score in the tournament.

The Ice Bowl mission is to increase local awareness of disc golf by raising funds for local and regional charities with an emphasis on fighting food insecurity. The Ice Bowl donates to the Buddy Pack program which gives backpacks full of free food to 400 Hannibal schoolchildren each week.
