Knobloch brothers from Highland, Ill., sweep 30th annual Hannibal Cannibal

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Saturday, July 5, marked the 30th running of the Hannibal Cannibal. This year’s event was a huge success and saw its first ever family sweep in the men’s 5K overall winners. The Knobloch brothers from Highland, Ill. took the top three spots: Christian, age 18, finished first at 17:30.0; younger brother Caleb, age 15, finished second at 17:50.2 and brother Joshua, also 15, finished third at 17:56.0.

Other overall winners for this year include: 

5K Females

  • 1st place, Madeline Bostick of Columbia at 21:10.9
  • 2nd place, Carmen Gentilia of Platte City at 21:38.0
  • 3rd place, Kendra Zeilstra of Brunswick at 22:01.8. 

10K Males

  • 1st place, Ryan Humphreys of Hannibal at 38:47.0
  • 2nd place, Justin Kappner of Quincy, Ill. at 39:18.4
  • 3rd place, Joseph Warning of Quincy, Ill. at 40:59.0. 

10K Females

  • 1st place, Briana Obermaier of Quincy, Ill. at 48:23.4
  • 2nd place, Liberty Brumbaugh of Geneseo, Ill. at 51:20.2
  • 3rd place, Emily Ver Meer of Hannibal at 53:39.6.

15K Males

  • 1st place, Cameron Deatherage of Lee’s Summit at 1:00:50.2
  • 2nd place, Kacper Wiszowaty of Park Ridge, Ill. at 1:03:16.1
  • 3rd place, Cole Miller of Pittsfield, Ill. at 1:05:09.3.

15K Females

  • 1st place, Angela Matlock of Bowling Green at 1:11:30.4
  • 2nd place Sarah Ehrhardt of Chicago, Ill. at 1:20:05.7
  • 3rd place, Robin Meyer of St. Louis at 1:21:37.5.

This year’s race saw nearly 1,700 participants from 25 states and New Zealand and raised over $72,000 for Hannibal Regional Foundation’s Legacy of Hope Campaign.  These funds will be used in Hannibal to assist with purchasing a new linear accelerator along with building upgrades at the Cary Cancer Center; and also in Kirksville to help with the construction of a new cancer center to provide radiation oncology in Kirksville.
