C-SC receives $1 million donation to assist first-generation students
CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College recently received a $1 million donation to enhance scholarship availability for first-generation students. The donation from a long-time donor, who asked not to be identified, earmarked this gift for an existing endowed scholarship.
Scholarship support is vital for Culver-Stockton students. Forty-one percent of the C-SC population meets the threshold for Pell grant eligibility, and 31 percent are the first members of their families to complete a four-year degree program.
Alissa Burger, director of student success at C-SC, works with students daily to assist them with their educational goals. She recognizes the vital role scholarship dollars play in student success.
“College students always will have barriers to overcome, but removing a financial barrier will drastically reduce emotional stress to aid in their successes in and out of the classroom,” Burger said in a press release.
“Our first-generation students usually require additional financial resources to complete their education, and this generous gift will help us bridge the gap for those individuals,” C-SC President Douglas B. Palmer said in a press release.
