Homecoming 2022 at Hannibal-LaGrange University deemed successful

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal-LaGrange University enjoyed homecoming weekend Nov. 11-12 that featured fun events for past and present students of the university.

Homecoming weekend kicked off on Friday when new members were inducted into the 50-Year Club, which was established to honor alumni who attended HLGU 50 or more years ago. Members of the classes of 1972 were treated to a special luncheon, and HLGU memories were shared. New members were honored with medallions that signified their induction.

A disc golf glow tournament was held on campus Friday night with 15 teams participating, raising more than $500 for the annual fund.

The women’s basketball team played host to Culver-Stockton College in its home opener Saturday afternoon and lost 85-52. The men’s basketball team played host to Missouri Valley College for its home opener Saturday afternoon and won 65-61.

The HLGU homecoming court was introduced at halftime of the men’s game. This year’s homecoming king candidates were Tucker Hilliard, Lincoln Burt, Nacho Martinez Garrido, Chris Stoner and Cameron Deatherage. Homecoming queen candidates were Peyton Bray, Mary Bradley, Sierra Erke, Anna Atherton and Maggie Dooley.

Last year’s king and queen, Ethan Bray and Sicily Johnston, returned to campus to crown this year’s king and queen, Tucker Hilliard and Sierra Erke.

The Booster Gala capped off a packed homecoming weekend. Friends of the university and community members enjoyed fellowship and food in the Roland Fine Arts Center before the formal program. The HLGU Booster Gala was sponsored by HNB Bank.

Three awards were given out to outstanding HLGU Alumni.

  • Outstanding Young Alumnus Award-Josh Pierce, Class of 2012
  • Outstanding Service Award-Jim Youse, Class of 1976, and Linda Parker Youse, Class of 1979, and
  • Distinguished Alumni Award-Brett R. Akright, Class of 1992, and Mindy Stinson Akright, Class of 1990.

The audience was treated to a performance by the HLGU Chamber Choir, followed by a keynote presentation by Hannibal-LaGrange University president Robert Matz.
