HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Regional Foundation annually presents the Legacy Award at the Hannibal Cannibal, an award named after long-time Cannibal supporter Bob Richards. The award recognizes an individual who is an avid supporter of the Cannibal and a promoter of healthy and active lifestyles.

This year’s recipient was Mary Lynne Richards of Hannibal.

Richards was part of the original planning committee for the first Cannibal in 1996 and has run in the race just about every year, competing in all three distance categories – 5/10/15k. Richards is known for her cartwheels at the top of Lover’s Leap.

In the early planning meetings for the Cannibal, Richards questioned if people would run up Lover’s Leap, given the steepness of the incline. Twenty-eight years later, runners flock to the Cannibal for the bragging rights of conquering Lover’s Leap.
