Mark Twain Casino raises $695 for Val’s Pal’s at Taste of Palmyra event
LA GRANGE, Mo. — Mark Twain Casino recently completed another successful fundraising campaign, selling smoked wings and brisket sliders to guests at the Taste of Palmyra event on Oct. 21. Val’s Pals of Palmyra received the $695 in proceeds from the event.
In a press release, Ryan Lounsbury, general manager of Mark Twain Casino, said, “We are beyond grateful by the overwhelming response from the community. Their generosity and willingness to support Val’s Pals represent the kindness and unity that defines our community. We are excited and honored to give back to our communities.”
Val’s Pals, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 2017 by Madonna Schmidt Watters as a tribute to her sister, Val Schmidt Cauwels, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2016. Their vision is to honor and support the caregivers of cancer patients, recognizing their significant role during a challenging journey.
They distributed 125 totes filled with essential and emotional support to cancer caregivers in the first year. Fast forward to 2023, and casino employees have distributed 600 totes, reaching more caregivers and making a greater impact.
