HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Boy Scout Troop 100 has created a flag dropbox in honor of Jess Ornelas of the American Legion Post 55.

According to the U.S. Flag code, if an American flag is not in good enough condition to represent our country, it should be taken down and destroyed. There are no rules against sewing or repairing it, but it shouldn’t be simply thrown away in the trash. Other options include burning or burying the flag, with burning being the most traditional method.

To ensure proper disposal of a torn or tattered American flag, it can now be deposited in the drop box located at 3819 Highway MM.
