HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Parks and Recreation is offering free nature program, “Explore a New Trail and Winter Tree ID” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7, on Hannah’s Epic Trail in the Sodalis Nature Preserve.

Susan and Bob Wathen installed the signs for Hannah’s Epic Trail, which is dedicated to their daughter Hannah, who died in 2015. The hike will be led by HPR nature educator Gale Rublee and members of the Mississippi Hills Master Naturalists.

In a press release, Ruble said, “Winter is a great time to get off the paved paths and explore the more rugged trails at Sodalis. No ticks. This special trail winds through the hills and woods among some of the more mature trees in the Preserve. We’ll practice identifying trees by observing their shape, bark and any remaining leaves.”

The hike will take about two hours and cover about 2.5 miles. Weather-appropriate shoes and equipment are recommended.

Reservations are required on the Hannibal Parks and Recreation website, www.hannibalparks.org under the drop-down menu: Sign up for a Program.
