Riedel Foundation awards grant to Child Advocacy Center to help victims of child abuse

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The George H. Riedel Foundation recently awarded $2,000 to the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri to buy assessments that measure the progress of therapy for childhood trauma victims.

The CAC will offer evidence-based assessment tools that therapists will administer at the beginning, middle and end of mental therapy treatment. It helps the clinician identify client symptoms and prioritize intervention strategies.

“Clinicians do not treat abuse. They treat the symptoms which arise from the abuse, its investigation, the impact on the family, and in turn the effect of the abuse on the child victim,” CAC therapist Carmen Ihrig said in a press release. “The Riedel Foundation grant will help provide mental health therapy to nurture long-term recovery and healing for Hannibal children.”

Riedel trustee April Baldwin said, “The Riedel Foundation has partnered with the Child Advocacy Center for nearly 20 years to provide services and support for child victims of abuse and their families. We know these grants are making a difference in the lives these children.”
