Riedel Foundation grant brings music to students through Hannibal Concert Association

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Riedel Foundation of Hannibal has awarded a $4,000 grant to provide for the 2023-24 season of the Hannibal Concert Association.

The HCA will use the money for the Student Pass Program, where select students and one accompanying adult are offered complimentary admission to a concert to encourage audience development through youths and families. HCA will work with public school and private instrumental instructors, members of the Hannibal Area String Orchestra, the elementary Southside String program and the concert and jazz bands at the middle and high school level.

In a press release, HCA president Sara Anton North said, “We are seeking opportunities to inspire children by having them involved in or be offered performances that motivate them, encourage their creativity a nd generate a next generation of concertgoers which creates a cycle of sustainability. Additionally, in continuing to move toward a variety of classical vs. mainstream performances we hope to bring more first-time audience members to our events.”

Riedel trustee April Baldwin said, “The majority of our grant awards benefit children, but we also foster the arts in Hannibal. The HCA grant accomplishes both, so it’s a good fit for the Riedel Foundation.”

The Hannibal Concert Association has brought in musicians and performers since 1945. This concert season started in September and ends in April 2024. The Riedel grant will help put on three performances. The first features the Fountain City Brass Band, which will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Parker Theater on the campus of Hannibal LaGrange University.
