Temporary nighttime traffic impacts scheduled on U.S. Route 24/61 at Route 6 interchange near Taylor

TAYLOR, Mo. — Motorists on northbound and southbound U.S. Route 24/61 are advised of nighttime lane closures on March 25-26 while crews set girders for the new Missouri Route 6 bridge, 7.6 miles north of Missouri Route 168, near Taylor in Marion County.

U.S. Route 24/61 (northbound and southbound) will be reduced to one lane in each direction and traffic will be diverted up and over the existing interchange ramps. Work is scheduled to occur during overnight hours as follows:

• From 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25,  to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26
• From 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, to 5 a.m. on Thursday, March 27

During this time, access on the west side of the interchange will remain open to allow the following movements:

• Westbound Missouri Route 6 from southbound U.S. 24/61
• Southbound U.S. 24/61 from eastbound Missouri Route 6

Once the girder installation is complete, the following traffic impacts will remain until the project is completed in mid-May:

• The Missouri Route 6 bridge over U.S. 24/61 will remain closed.
• The signed detour, from U.S. 61 to Route V, through Maywood to Route 6, will assist motorists in reaching their destinations.
• U.S. 24/61 (northbound/southbound) traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and include a 12-foot width restriction through the work zone.
• U.S. 24/61 (northbound) to Route 6 traffic will utilize the signed detour over Route V though Maywood to reach Missouri 6.
• U.S. 61 northbound ramps, on the east side of the interchange, will be closed to all traffic.
• U.S. 61 southbound ramps, on the west side of the interchange, will be remain open to all traffic.
• Route 6 (eastbound) to U.S. 24/61 southbound traffic will continue to utilize the southbound U.S. 24/61 on-ramp.

The $1.8M contract was awarded last year to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. of Columbia. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, obey all signs and eliminate distractions while driving. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists as schedule changes occur.
