United Way seeking nominations for Evening of Philanthropy

HANNIBAL, Mo. — United Way of the Mark Twain Area is seeking nominations for people to honor at its Evening of Philanthropy on Friday, May 9.

The United Way Evening of Philanthropy began in 2019 with the goal to honor individuals, families and couples who invest their time, talents and treasures to make our community better.

“There are so many individuals who have done so many great things to improve our community,” Denise Damron, executive director of the United Way, said in a press release. “The Evening of Philanthropy spotlights these great individuals and their good work, and we are hopeful it inspires others to do good things with their time, talents and treasures in our community.”

United Way is seeking nominations for the Evening of Philanthropy Honorees in four categories:

  • Life-Long Philanthropist
  • Philanthropic Family/Couple
  • Philanthropic Individual
  • Philanthropic Group-New category this year

People must reside within Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Ralls and Shelby, in northeast Missouri to be nominated for this recognition.

Previous honorees are:

  • In the area of Philanthropic Individual: Andre Sheard, Ken Disselhorst, Brad Kurz, Sharon Webster, and Kate Dougherty.
  • In the area of Life-Long Philanthropist: The legacy of George Riedel, Linda Cook, Vickie Witthaus, Betty Anderson and the late Ralph Griesbaum.
  • In the area of Philanthropic Couple/Family: Mark & Stephanie Bross, Jimmy & Amber O’Donnell, Raymond & Janet Taylor, Pat & Connie Benson and Kevin & Denice Blew.
  • In the area of Philanthropic Youth: Mallory Sublette, Madi Weatherford, Ethan Romig and Robert Wealer.

The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15. Tickets will go on sale soon for the Evening of Philanthropy.
