HANNIBAL, Mo. — Volunteers are needed beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday to help maintain existing trails and build a new trail at the Sodalis Nature Preserve. The work project is being organized by Martin Meyer.

Volunteers should meet at the shelter at Sodalis Nature Preserve. They should bring things such as shovels, rakes, hoes, loppers, hand saws and good gloves.

The new trail will celebrate the memory of Hannah Wathen, who died in 2015. At her funeral, Hannah’s dad, Bob Wathen, shared an article of the work being done at Sodalis Nature Preserve to protect the bat population. The article resonated deeply with him that the loss of bats to the ecosystem was not overlooked and the loss of Hannah should not be overlooked.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death to youth and young adults aged 10-24, and rates of death by suicide increased 52 percent between 2000 and 2021.

More information is available by contacting Meyer at 573-795-8239.
