HANNIBAL, Mo. — SETWorks, a business focused on elevating the standard of disability services through innovation, dedication and excellence recently, held its second annual “Inspiring Progress – Celebrating Success in Disability Services” contest. The contest recognizes and gives back to people who embody this mission and make a real impact in their communities.

Submissions were received from across the country, each highlighting stories of innovation and impact. The contest recognizes achievements across achievement, innovation and transformation. One winner from each of these categories receives prize funds to be used to further their initiatives, support professional development or enhance the quality of their services.

Learning Opportunities Quality Works, Inc. (LOQW) was the recipient of the achievement category award. LOQW navigates benefits systems. When Missouri’s Medicaid redeterminations and spin-down issues resurfaced post-COVID, many people faced obstacles in maintaining their essential services.

That’s where Dolores Wilson, LOQW’s benefits specialist, stepped in.

Wilson works to advocate for families and secure refunds and benefits. One notable success involved a family grappling with a $2,500 spin-down payment. Thanks to Wilson, not only was the payment refunded, but she also secured their qualification for Ticket to Work Health Insurance, reducing their monthly premium to just $40.

In a press release, Steve and Marsha Kelley, whose son was one of many clients who benefited from Wilson’s support, were deeply impacted by her dedication. They said, “Dolores spoke with people in Jefferson City about our situation, she took phone calls outside of work hours and went to a meeting with Steve. She truly went above and beyond.”

Wilson also secured a modified vehicle for a young man with mobility needs through the Social Security PASS Plan and Vocational Rehabilitation Services, allowing him to work on his family’s farm.

“We are honored to receive the Inspiring Progress Award,” LOQW Executive Director Wendy Hays said. “This recognition highlights the important work that is being done every day by our community of support workers and the impact it makes in the lives of families, service recipients and the community.”
