The District to be host of ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser Monday at Revelry

QUINCY — Christmas in July is returning to the District for its second year.

The Light the Park fundraiser will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Revelry, 121 N. Fourth.

Monday’s event features food, a photo booth, drink specials, holiday treats and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear Christmas attire, with a prize awarded for the best Christmas outfit. The fundraiser will have a 50/50 drawing, with all tips and a percentage of sales going back to the District.

“And maybe a few casts of characters will be there,” Rusty Williams, co-owner of Revelry with his wife Paula, said in a press release. “You never know.”

To the Williamses, Christmas evokes a peaceful feeling everywhere.

“We enjoy the lights in the park because of that. We owe it to everyone in the area and beyond to share what the town of Quincy is trying to bring,” Rusty Williams said.

Light the Park is an annual event that showcases thousands of holiday lights in Washington Park. All of the lights are stored and operated by Lighting Creations. It is the District’s goal each year to raise $15,000 to maintain the decorations. This year’s lighting ceremony is slated for Nov. 26, with volunteers needed to help hang the lights as well as take them down.

“Hanging holiday lights for our Light the Park event is more than stringing lights in the park. It’s a moment of peace and beauty that we hope will draw families together,” said Emily Lombardi, director of Economic Development. “Some of my favorite holiday memories revolve around being with family, hot chocolate in hand and watching the lights glow.”

Lombardi said organizers hope to combine a festive atmosphere Monday with the intention to build the holiday light display.
