HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Alliance Art Gallery will present the works of member artist Martha Adrian and guest artist Amanda Pendergrass during the month of March.

Also on display will be creations by 20 local guest artists. This Second Saturday event will offer an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, with an artist’s talk held at 6 p.m. People attending can register for an art giveaway at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Pendergrass grew up in an artistic family in Wisconsin with parents who encouraged her to produce art. Her mother is still an active fiber artist working primarily in batik. Pendergrass and her husband lived in Oklahoma until he took a job in Cairo, Egypt. While there, he encouraged her to take an art class where she worked primarily in oils.

Pendergrass’ exhibits in the show will be works in a variety of media such as paintings, monoprints and clay additive sculptures.

Adrian is the Spotlight Artist of the Year for March. A lifelong resident of Hannibal, Adrian’s work is a mix of Hannibal scenes old and new and still life.

It wasn’t until Adrian had raised her family that she started taking art classes with local art teachers. After trying a variety of media, she decided that acrylic and oil paint were her media of choice.

Martha continues to take classes, mostly online. She often watches YouTube videos and usually keeps six or seven canvases prepared so that when she finds the time and inspiration, she is ready.
