QUINCY — Auditions for Quincy Community Theatre‘s production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be Sept. 18-19.

A large cast of actors, singers and dancers are needed. QCT is looking for men and women age 16 and older to fill many roles, as well as one child for the role of “Chip.” Many may associate the roles with previous actors or illustrations, but the theatre encourages all community members to bring their unique selves to the roles.

“When people think of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ they probably imagine what they’ve seen in one of the movies. In both, the principal characters are played by or depicted as caucasians, yet that is not the way it has to be,” Director Brandon Thomsen said. “This is QCT’s version of the production, and we want it to represent our entire community.”

Performances will be Nov. 26-28 and Dec. 2-5.

Based on the Oscar-winning animated film, “Beauty and the Beast” tells the tale of a cruel and vain prince who is cursed to live as a hideous beast unless he learns to love and be loved in return. Strong-willed and smart, Belle is a lonely outsider in her small village. Although the Beast imprisons her, it may be Belle who captures his heart. Can true love prevail and have the power to transform in this enchanting tale as old as time?

Those auditioning should prepare a song to sing and will be asked to read from the script, which will be available on the QCT website. To access the script, call QCT for the password. QCT requires proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for volunteers and production staff (over age 16) involved with the production.

Online registration, detailed audition requirements, audition tips, and character descriptions will be available at www.1qct.org/on-stage/auditions. Audition appointments may be made by contacting the QCT Box Office at 217-222-3209.

People interested in being involved in the production but uninterested in being on stage should reach out to the QCT Box Office to learn more about the off-stage roles needed.
