Benefit concert featuring former Carthage native searching for adult singers for backup choir
CARTHAGE, Ill. — A summer benefit concert for The Legacy Theater is planned for Saturday, July 13. Chenille Sheeran of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Carthage, will be the featured performer.
Sheeran operated Center Stage Music in Carthage for many years before advancing her own musical career in Nashville. The award-winning singer and recording star was involved in the early years of The Legacy Theater and has agreed to return to Carthage for this concert to support the theater.
Several songs in the concert will include a backup adult choir made up of local singers. The choir will be directed by Beth Shurtleff of Nauvoo. Video auditions to join this choir are open. Audition applications are due no later than April 30. Approximately 30 singers will be selected and notified by May 15. Rehearsals will be held on June 20, June 27, and July 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
To audition for the choir, submit:
- your full name, address, telephone number, email and vocal parts you are comfortable singing (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass).
- an audio or video recording of yourself singing a 1- to 2-minute song of your choice. A simple song or hymn would be appropriate.
Audition recordings should be sent to Shurtleff at bethshurtleff@gmail.com. A link to submit auditions is also available at www.thelegacytheater.com or on The Legacy Theater Facebook page.
The concert will include a children’s choir of around 20 voices and local dancers. More information on how children may participate in the concert will be available soon.
For information or questions on adult auditions, email Shurtleff or call 801-708-2609 or email Tom Robbins, theater director, at director@thelegacytheater.com.
Tickets for the benefit concert are now available at the theater’s website, thelegacytheater.com.
