ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. — Adams County is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2025 with the publication of a commemorative Bicentennial book. This once-in-a-lifetime project aims to capture the vibrant history, rich traditions and enduring legacy of Adams County during the past two centuries.

The Bicentennial Book Committee is calling on all Adams County businesses, organizations, nonprofits, service clubs, schools, churches, etc. to submit stories, photos and historical articles to be featured in this historic publication.

Officials with the Book Committee stress that in order to make this book as compressive as possible, it’s going to take not only an enormous amount of community awareness but also, participation.

In a press release, Adam Duesterhaus, chair of the Bicentennial Book Committee, said, “The Book Committee would love to have the time to sit down with each and every one of our county’s residents to hear and review their materials, but we know that’s just not possible. Because of that, we’re asking every business, organization, nonprofit, church, school and service club that has a story to tell and wants to participate in the book to gather your information and submit it on their behalf.”

Find a series of photos and write a story you wish to include in the book, or share your business or organization’s history, personal stories or treasured photos to help tell the story of Adams County.

Submission details may be obtained by contacting the Book Committee at AdamsCo200@AdamsCountyIL.gov. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28.

The Bicentennial Book is being published by Acclaim Press of Sikeston, Mo., which specializes in community histories and trade publications. Additional information about the book and ordering options is available on the Acclaim Press website at www.acclaimpress.com.
